| | ORPHAN PROGRAM: Currently our program supports 26 needy indigenous children. High mortality rates, leave many children with only one or neither of their parents. Due to the poor and inadequate infrastructure of Guatemala, there is an urgent need for a more integrated approach to rural community health, education and support. Poverty and lack of appropriate resources, burden the relatives and families of these children, often times leaving the single parent without any support. Clinicas Maya provides assistance for these children. We believe that it is important to their health and well being, that these children remain within the family structure that they are traditionally accustomed. In order to support this, we provide full scope health care, nutritional assistance, education, and basic amenities. We require that all these children of age, attend school, and visit the clinic regularly where we monitor the growth and health needs. The guardian or parent must also have a job. We offer “good health and educational opportunities” for these single mothers in order to help secure a future for her and her children . |
