How can I donate and what ?
Our clinic has five running programs which support the community in various ways. Our base clinic, Clinica Naturista, uses medical equipment, supplies and materials. Our Orphan program which supports 26 Mayan children and their mothers or guardians, need financial donations as well as dry goods such as clothes, shoes and school supplies. The Midwife training program uses specific medical supplies as we distribute them amongst 8 villages, and 59 Indigenous midwives. Gloves, guazes, scissors, hemostats, birth supplies just to name a few. Emergancy Transport and Ambulance program uses mostly disposible materials. Lastly Outreach centers around surrounding communities with particular needs, We coordinate with visiting medical teams who perform surgeries, dental work, trainings, and general clinics for those with greater needs.
You can find a LIST OF NEEDS on our sitemap on the homepage. Monetary donations click Donation for more info. Due to the politics here in Guatemala, we have found that the best way to get us the donations is to make arrangements for visitors and volunteers to carry them down in their baggage. You can email us, tell us what you got and we will make the connections for your donations to get to us. Over the years we have found that some materials or supplies are better bought here in Guatemala. All monetary donations go into the general fund and get distributed to the areas of greatest needs. We are looking for assistance with our orphan program, ask how you can help.

What condition is San Marcos now after the distruction caused by Hurrican Stan in October of 2005?
With the aide of many NGO`s from all over the world our immmediate in San Marcos for food , drinking water and clothes were addressed very quickly. Over the long haul it had been months of moving rocks, meters of rocks, soil and distruction. It was a tremendous effort by everyone together to clean the mess. We still have families who have no land left to build on. Clinicas Maya is assisted in this effort to get everyone housed and back to their regular life style. The people are still experiencing stress and post hurrican trama everytime we get a hard rain that goes for more than one night. There are mud slides that continue to block road ways and move down in small areas after a day of hard rain tipical of this time a year. We are organizing disaster groups in our area and doing a bit of training, stocking needed supplies in case we have another scare. Clinicas Maya pulled through the disaster as the walls of rushing water, boulders and trees, made there way down but went around our clinic on both side. We shoveled out about a meter of mud and sludge from our bottom floors as soon as was possible. Of course our gardens all were waterlogged and ruined but this was a small price to pay for what could have been. The town people said we were blessed, God had spared us. We seem to think so,too. It is May of 2009 and our spirits are high and it`s business as usual

What is the safety for foreigners in Guatemala?
Currently, MAY 2009, we are experiencing various questionable situations in the capital due to politics. I will add that This sort of thing has been occuring on and off over the past 9 years and probably will continue. As far as safety for travelers in our location, we are not experiencing any threats or injuries to fellow travelers at this time. It seems there is a frequency of events around the time of the elections here in Guatemala. It is recommended by the US Embassy to first check the internet for any current travel advisories before you begin your journey into foreign countries.
